The University of Maryland’s proud gridiron tradition is marked by a 1953 National Championship and 25 postseason bowl games. Here are (9) garments from some of those matchups! Displaying varying degrees of wear, highlights include (3) jerseys with: 1984 Sun Bowl: Jeff Holinka; 2002 Peach Bowl: Andrew Wojcik; 2004 Senior Bowl: Madieu Williams. More on our website.
Jeff Holinka 1984 Sun Bowl Game-Worn Jersey: a white mesh half-jersey pullover garment with “62” displayed on the front, back and shoulders in red-on-black appliqué, with “HOLINKA” on a nameplate atop the back number in red heat-pressed characters. A red-gold-and-black striped pattern lines each sleeve, while a “SUN BOWL” appliqué logo adorns the left sleeve. On the left front tail, a “Champion” label denotes size “XXL.” Solid wear is evident with minor stains about the sleeves and a small tear along the stretch ribbed knit left side seam.
Madieu Williams 2004 Senior Bowl Game-Worn Jersey: a red mesh/dazzle cloth blend pullover garment with “20” displayed on the front and back in white-on-blue appliqué and “M. WILLIAMS” on a nameplate atop the back number in solid white appliqué. “SENIOR BOWL” is embroidered to the chest in white, while appliqué event logos adorn the sleeves. Within the white dazzle cloth V-neck, a “Russell Athletic” label denotes size “XL.” Nice game wear is evident with turf stains and contact-induced paint transfers (likely from an opponent’s helmet).
Andrew Wojcik 2002 Peach Bowl Game-Worn Jersey: a red mesh/dazzle cloth blend pullover garment with “50” sewn to the front, back and sleeves in white-on-black twill and “WOJCIK” displayed on a nameplate atop the back number in solid white heat-pressed characters. Black-and-gold trims lines the shoulders, while the front is adorned with “Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl,” “ACC” and Maryland “M” patches (as well as an embroidered Nike “Swoosh” logo). On the vented left front tail, a size “44” label is accompanied by a flap tag denoting “L.” The jersey shows no game use, as Wojcik was injured at the end of the 2002 season.
