Having combined for three mound triumphs as teammates in perhaps the most “miraculous” World Series conquest of all-time, Jerry Koosman and Tom Seaver found themselves on opposing sides as the latter was traded during the 1977 season. Meeting for the second time as pitching adversaries on July 13, 1978, Koosman and the Mets defeated Seaver and the Reds, 4-2 as the offered baseball was hit to left field for the final out and subsequently signed by both Koosman and Mets reliever Skip Lockwood. The ONL Feeney orb shows obvious game use with surface marks and what appear to be stains from Lena Blackburne’s Delaware River rubbing mud. On one panel, a legend is written in black ballpoint. It reads: “Mets-4 Reds-2 July 13, 1978 – WP – Koosman – LP – Seaver – Save – Lockwood.” On the opposite panel, Koosman has signed and personalized in black ballpoint (“8-9” strength) and Lockwood has signed (“8” strength), as well.

The ball was obtained by former New York Mets assistant trainer Joe Deer. Accompanying are both an LOA from Deer and a full photo LOA from JSA.
