A decade removed from their glory years the 1942 Philadelphia Athletics were still beloved by their fans despite finishing dead last. Offered is a 1942 Athletics team-signed ball featuring the endorsements of (22) of these lovable losers. Though the league stamp is faded this uniformly toned OAL/Harridge ball remains in appealing (VG-EX) condition with minor abrasions. Signatures range (“6-8”), keys are: Simmons (“7-8”), Blackburne (“7”), Fowler (“6-7”), Hayes (“8”), Johnson (“6”), Kinckerbocker (“7”). Full photo LOA from JSA. More on our website.
All of the signatures display boldly and would rate at the top of the scale if not for small scattered abrasions causing minor ink breaks. All are clearly discernable and overall this vintage souvenir is attractive and highly collectible. The complete list of signers is as follows:
Sweet Spot: Connie Mack (clubhouse version), Lena Blackburne
North Panel: Jack Knott, Mike Kreevich, Bob Johnson, Tex Shirley, Dave Keefe, Frank Hayes
South Panel: Jim Castiglia, Hal Wagner, Dick Fowler, Roger Wolff, Herman Besse, Dick Siebert, Dee Miles
East Panel: Al Simmons, Elmer Valo
West Panel: Luman Harris, Phil Marchildon, Earle Brucker, Buddy Blair, Bill Knickerbocker, Pete Suder
