While personal milestones were secondary as Steve Carlton took the mound on Friday, September 23, 1983, the 38-year-old southpaw was true to the task, fanning 12 St. Louis Cardinals in a 6-2 Phillies triumph. With 154 games off the slate and just eight to go, the victory allowed the Phils to maintain a three-game lead over Pittsburgh and simultaneously eliminated the defending World Series champion Cardinals. Appropriately, it was also the 300th win of Carlton’s brilliant career. Encapsulated and Graded VG 3 by PSA, this “Field Box” ticket stub was issued at Busch Stadium for that historic mound performance. One of two at its tier with only eight graded higher, the crisp voucher features printed seating/event details, as well as images of the stadium and St. Louis Gateway Arch and the facsimile signature of club owner August Busch.
