Historical autograph seekers harvest a prize example with this Cyrus McCormick signed check. Renown for his game changing reaper harvesting machine, McCormick was a pivotal player in the industrialization of agriculture, mainly through his Chicago based marketing efforts. Made payable to “N. R. Graham” this Merchants Savings Loan & Trust Co. check displays in appealing condition with light signs of age-appropriate wear. Applied at lower right as “C.H. McCormick Chairman”, McCormick’s industrial sized endorsement shows desirable (“7-8”) strength. The initials “C.H.” are signed over an orange Franklin E4 Revenue stamp pre-printed at center and canceled with a three-legged bank cut which remains unobtrusive and does not contact the signature. Dated 10/12/1872 this significant relic is imprinted at lower right with the name of its manufacturer “Dean Bros. & Hoffman, Stationers, Chicago” and also bears a discreet previous price notation penciled at top right. Endorsing signatures of the payee and a co-signer appear on the reverse along with a Cook County National Bank stamp and what appears to be a later date notation. Full photo LOA from JSA.
