His name sealed in infamy as the player chosen before Bill Russell in the 1956 NBA Draft, Si Green actually joined Russell for the 1965-66 season. This contract secured Green’s services (albeit briefly) that season and is signed by hoops legends Red Auerbach (signed “Arnold Auerbach”) and Buddy Jeannette. Composed on an 8-1/2 x 9-1/2” sheet, the document has printed legal details and typewritten specifics. At the conclusion, the aforementioned icons have signed in blue ballpoint (both “9-10” strength). Full photo LOA from JSA. More on our website.
Dated “October 11 1965,” the contract reads (in part):
”The Celtics are to pay Baltimore Bullets Basketball Club, Inc. the sum of $1500.00 plus their fourth draft choice for the year 1966, in return for the rights and contract of Sihugo Green.”
Bullets coach Buddy Jeannette and Celtics owner Red Auerbach signed on the appropriate lines. The crisp sheet has two normal horizontal compacting folds. Green, incidentally, was to play in only 10 games for the 1965-66 Celtics, tallying half as many personal fouls (16) as points scored (32). It was the once-promising Duquesne University product’s final season in the NBA.
