Description

Issued without premonition of the historical feats that were to transpire on the diamond, these (20) full tickets hail from contests that featured landmark performances and legendary performers. Conditions are spectacular throughout with keys including: April 6, 1977 Angles at Mariners: inaugural game in Mariners history (NM); September 8, 1992 Indians at Brewers: Robin Yount 3000th career hit (NM); October 1, 2000 Cubs at Pirates: last-ever game at Three Rivers Stadium (EX). Showcasing sharp edges/corners, strong perforations and vibrant colors, these vouchers are candidates for third-party grading. Additional tickets include:

September 25, 1968 Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates: a 3-0 Reds triumph in which Roberto Clemente registered career hit number 2,379. Hall of Famers Bench, Mazeroski, Perez and Stargell also played. Likely taken from a season ticket booklet, the thin stock Forbes Field voucher presents (EX-MT).

July 9, 1969 Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers: a 3-1 Dodgers win during which Hall of Famer Phil Niekro suffers the setback, despite a 2-for-4 performance (career hits 2,888, 2,889) by Hank Aaron. The crisp and crease-free Dodger Stadium voucher presents beautifully but cannot be assigned a technical grade due to a tiny pinhole.

September 8, 1969 Chicago Cubs at New York Mets: a 3-2 Mets victory; Chicago had led the division by as many as nine games as late as August 17, but endured several losing streaks, including an eight-game skid that allowed the Mets to take over the top spot. This particular setback was the Cubs’ 5th of those eight straight, trimming their lead to just two games. The following day, the infamous “black cat” strolled behind Cubs third baseman Ron Santo in the on-deck circle, symbolically sealing the Cubs’ fate. The crease-free Shea Stadium voucher presents (EX).:

July 29, 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates at Los Angeles Dodgers: an 8-5 Pirates win in which Roberto Clemente delivered career hit number 2,822 and Willie Stargell launched career home run number 229. Dodger Stadium ticket presents (EX-MT).

May 2, 1972 Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Dodgers: a 7-6 Dodgers win in which Frank Robinson authored one of his 30 career four-hit games. The Dodgers Stadium ticket presents (VG-EX).

September 19, 1973 St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies: a 3-2 Phillies win that saw Steve Carlton notch career win number 116 despite a 2-for-4 performance by Lou Brock. Rookie Mike Schmidt went 1-for-3. The Veterans Stadium voucher presents nicely with three hole punchings (likely rendered upon admission).

April 10, 1986 San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers: a 3-23 Padres victory fueled by two hits from Tony Gwynn (numbers 561 and 562 for his career) and preserved by Goose Gossage’s 258th career save. Dodger Stadium voucher presents (NM).

June 21, 1986 San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers: an 8-7 Padres win (in 14 innings) in which Tony Gwynn enjoyed one of 36 career four-hit games. Dodger Stadium voucher presents nicely, yet cannot be assigned a technical grade due to a tiny pinhole.

April 6, 1987 Boston Red Sox at Milwaukee Brewers: a 5-1 Brewers opening day win en route to a franchise-best 13-0 start. Hall of Famers Boggs, Molitor and Yount all delivered hits. County Stadium ticket presents (NM).

June 20, 1989 Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates: a 5-4 Cubs win (in 11 innings) during which Andre Dawson hit career home run number 305. Three Rivers Stadium voucher presents (NM).

April 21, 1991 Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates: an 11-inning 13-12 Pirates win (Chicago’s second of three “walk-off” losses in four days); Hall of Famer Andre Dawson hit his 349th career home run, an 11-th-inning grand slam that gave the visitors a 12-7 lead. But Pittsburgh countered with six in the bottom of the 1th. Three Rivers Stadium voucher presents (VG-EX).

July 12, 1994 All-Star Game: issued at Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Stadium for a 10-inning Mid-Summer Classic that ended as Tony Gwynn scored the winning run. The ticket presents (VG) with a horizontal crease.

May 19, 2000 St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates: a 13-1 Pirates win in which Jason Kendall hit for the cycle. The Three Rivers Stadium voucher presents (EX-MT).

April 27, 2003 San Francisco Giants at Philadelphia Phillies: a 1-0 Phillies triumph and 10-strikeout, no-hit performance by Kevin Millwood. The Veterans Stadium ticket presents (VG-EX).

August 10, 2004 San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates: an 8-7 Pirates win in which the hosts withstood Barry Bonds’ 688th career home run. The PNC Park voucher presents (NM).

September 23, 2004 Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates: a 6-3 Cubs win authored by Greg Maddux for career triumph number 304. The PNC Park voucher presents (VG-EX).

June 8, 2010 Pittsburgh Pirates at Washington Nationals: a 5-2 Nationals win that marked the auspicious debut of fireballer Steven Strasburg (7 innings, 14 strikeouts). The Nationals Park ticket presents (VG).
